IFACSTA Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year Award - Dr. Jennifer Banning
Dr. Jennifer Banning is an Associate Professor and serves as the Program Coordinator for the Fashion, Design and Merchandising area in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Illinois State University. It is an honor to speak about Dr. Banning for the Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year Award. I have been a colleague of Dr. Banning’s at ISU for the past seven years but have worked with her for over a decade. If you know Jennifer, she is a true professional and person. She is dedicated to the students she serves and the colleagues she leads. Dr. Banning excels in teaching fashion-related content by using experiential learning and application techniques. Students always comment favorably on her teaching style and thoroughly enjoy her classes. Dr. Banning goes above the job description; for example, she oversees a student-led fashion show that is attended by area secondary FCS classes. Dr. Banning also serves as the curator for the Lois Jett Costume Collection located in Turner Hall at ISU, which is such an asset to the FDM students. In addition to teaching, Dr. Banning chairs and serves on multiple committees at ISU and is active in professional organizations related to fashion, design, and merchandizing. Dr. Banning supports and is a friend to IFACSTA. For these reasons and many more, Dr. Banning is most deserving of the Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year Award.
