Congratulations to IFACSTA member Brittney Bauer for being a teacher spotlight in the Explore. Act. Tell Program!

Brittney Bauer is a Family and Consumer Science teacher and FCCLA adviser at West Chicago Community High School District 94 in West Chicago, IL.

Q: Please describe your students’ project!

A: Students asked for canned food donations at school. When the donation period ended, the 596 donated cans were delivered to a local food pantry to help families struggling with food insecurity. Students were proud that they helped these families and knew they made a positive difference in the community.

Q: What did your students learn throughout the Explore.Act.Tell. Program?

A: (Reflection from students) Participating in a can drive displays the power of collective generosity as it proves how small acts of kindness can make a huge difference to communities in need. It serves as a reminder that, if done collectively, it addresses larger issues (in this case poverty/hunger) & fosters a sense of shared responsibility to fulfill as a society for the greater good.
